Song Review: "Fifth Half Full" By Ryland Fisher
Ryland Fisher embraces an unspoken tragedy on ‘Fifth Half Full.’ First of all, to finish half a fifth, one must be enduring a great deal of inner turmoil and that is once again articulated in Ryland’s distinct, raw fashion. The arrangement adds to that bleary sensibility. Like trying to forget a terrible memory, the song’s sorrow proves to be palpable. Guitars weave themselves together, the electric intertwined with an acoustic. His voice has a determination to it that wants to overcome the heartache, yet it still feels just a bit too soon. Hurt works in that way- with the passage of time the only tried and trusted remedy to loss, however it may have happened.
